First Continental Congress & Minutemen 7 -1774 -leaders from 12 colonies -support boycotts -Colonists began working together as one group. -It prepared for possible war with Britain.
Lexington and Concord: 8 -1775 -first battle -Colonists now fully resisted Britain with weapons.
2nd Continental Congress and The Olive Branch Petition: 9 -1775 -sent the Olive Branch Petition asking Britain for peace -King George III rejected it & sent troops -It moved closer to declaring independence bc britian didn't want to compromise
Common Sense: 10 -1776 -pamphlet written by thomas paine -argued that colonies should break free from britian and have their own government -It inspired many colonists to support independence
Declaration of Independence: 11 (last) -1776 -document by thomas jefferson -colonies were free from britian -Officially broke ties with Britain and gained independence :)
