• Bold Print Used to call attention to new and important words that can often be found in the glossary.

• Caption The words next to or underneath a picture that explains what it is or is about.

• Cutaway A picture or diagram that shows the parts or layers of an object on the inside.
• Diagram Used to show the parts of something.
• Fact Box Gives extra information about a topic.
• Glossary Used to show alphabetically new or important words and shows or tells what they mean.
• Graph Used to show information in a visual way to that it is more easily understood by readers.
• Guide Words The words at the top of a dictionary page that let you know which words appear on that page
• Heading Tells the reader what the section what it’s about.
• Homepage Takes you to the main site.
• Hyperlink A digital link in a piece of informational text that takes you to another location such as a website.
• Hyperlink Text Links to another page.
• Icon A picture on a computer or digital device that opens an application, file, or website.
• Keyword Words in a text that are important like bold, italic, or colored
• Illustration A hand drawn picture that helps the reader visualize the text.
• Label The part of the diagram that shows you what you are looking at.
• Index An index is an alphabetical listing of the subjects, people, and places found in the text.
• Italic Print A slanted text that identifies new or important words.
• Map Used to show the location of things or places.
• Parentheses Curved marks used to identify additional information in a sentence.
• Photograph A picture made with a camera that shows how things look in real life.
• Pronunciation Guide Used to tell the reader how to say a new word.
• Search Box Allows you to type in the search.
• Sidebar Used to give additional information related to a topic or picture and is usually placed in the side of the page.
• Subheading Used to help the reader shrink the text into smaller parts that are related to the heading.
• Tab Shows you where you are now.
• Table of Contents Used to give the heading and beginning page number of each section in a book.
• Table A chart of information listed in a visual way.
• Timeline A chart that helps a reader see important events in order.
• Title The name of the book.
• Title Page The page inside a book that tells the title and the publisher information.
