How does atropine work? It decreases the parasympathetic tone (it takes the foot off the break)
How does adenosine work? It temporarily stops conduction through the AV node, it stops a re-entry circit and allows it to reset.
Definition of pharmacology? The study of drugs, including their actions and effects. on the host.
Difference between trade and generic drug names? Trade names are capitalized and generic names are lowercased
What is bioavaliability? The proportion of the drug when introduced to the body that is able to have an active effect
List 3 parenteral routes of administration? IV/IO IM IN
What are the advantages to enteral medication administration? No training required, administration isn't painful, and the drug does not have to be sterile.
What is diffusion? The movement of particles from a higher concentration to a lower concentration
What is an antagonist? A chemical that binds to a receptor of a cell and blocks the response
What are the sympathetic nervous system effects on the body? Dilated pupils, increase HR, increased BP, bronchodialation
What are the parasympathetic nervous system effects on the body? Constricted pupils, decreased HR, Decreased BP, bronchoconstriction
Nerve receptors that have acetylcholine as their neurotransmitter are? Sympathomimetic
Symptoms of an anticholinergic OD? Mad as a hatter, blind as a bat, red as a beet
Drug class for TXA? anti fibronolytic agent
