Matter any material that has mass and occupies space
Atoms are basic units of mater
element is a chemical substance with a given set of properties that cannot be broken down into substances with other properties
nucleus every atom has one its a central core , containing particles called protons and neutrons
molecule is a combination of two or more atoms of the same type or different types joined by covenant bonds
compound a substance compound of atoms of two or more different elements
hydrocarbons are organic compounds containing only hydrogen and carbon
solution a mixture in which all the ingredients are evenly distributed
macromolecules a large molecule includes proteins , nuclear acids , carbon hydrates , and lipids
proteins are polymers that serve many functions in an organism
Nuclear acids macromolecules that direct protein production and is responsible for passing traits from parents to off spring
Carbon hydrates polymers that consist of atoms of carbon , hydrogen , and oxygen
lipids are chemically diverse group of macromolecules that are classified together because they don't dissolve in water
pH the pH scale runs from 0-14
feedback loop an event is both a cause , or input and an effect , or output , in the same system ; can be nagataive or positive
Erosion the removal of soil by water , wind , ice , or gravity , can lead to a positive feedback loop
geosphere is made of all rock at and below Earth's surface
lithosphere is a hard rock on and just below Earth's surface
biosphere consists of all the planets living or once living things and non living parts
hydrosphere - encompasses all water , sal fresh , liquid , ice , and vapor - on Earth's surface
