TermDefinition
matter all materials in the universe that have mass and takes up space
atoms based on units of matter.
elements chemical substance with a given set of properties that cant be broken down.
nucleus central core. particles of protons, and neutrons.
molecule combination of two or more atoms with the same type or different types
compound composed atoms of two or more elements.
hydrocarbons organic compounds only containing hydrogen and carbon
solution solutions can be liquid gasses or solids.
macromolecules Proteins, nucleic aids, and carbohydrates. Because of their big size. They play an important role in life.
protein Organic compounds made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and sometimes sulfur. It helps produce tissue and provide support.
nucleic acids Macro molecules that direct protein production.
carbohydrates polymers that consist of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Lipids chemically diverse group of macro molecules that are classified together because they do not dissolve in water.
pH describes the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.
