|---|---|
| Matter | All material in the universe that has mass and occupies space. |
| Atoms | The basic units of matter. |
| Element | A chemical substance with a given set of properties that cannot be broken down into substances with other properties. |
| Nucleus | A central core, containing particles called protons and neutrons. |
| Molecule | A combination of two or more atoms of the same type or of different types joined by covalent bonds. |
| Compound | A substance composed of atom of two or more different elements. |
| Hydrocarbon | Organic compounds containing only hydrogen and carbon. |
| Solution | A mixture in which all the ingredients are evenly distributed. |
| Macro molecules | Proteins,nucleic acids,carbohydrates, and lipids. |
| Proteins | Polymers that serve many functions in organisms. |
| Nucleic acids | Macro molecules that direct protein production. |
| Carbohydrates | Polymers that consist of atoms of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. |
| Lipids | A chemically diverse group of macro molecules that are classified together because they do not dissolve in water. |
| pH | The acidity of alkalinity of a solution. |
| Feedback loop | Sometimes an event is both a cause, or input, and an effect, or output,in the system. |
| Erosion | The removal of soil by water, wind, ice, or gravity, can lead to positive feedback loop. |
| Geo sphere | Is made of all the rock at and below Earth's surface. |
| Lithosphere | The hard rock on and just below Earth's surface the outermost layer of the geosphere. |
| Biosphere | Consist of all the planet's living or once-living things and the nonliving parts of the environment with which they interact. |
| Atmosphere | Consist of the layers of gases surrounding our planet. |
| Hydrosphere | Encompasses all water salt, fresh, liquid, ice, and vapor on Earth's surface, under ground, and in the atmosphere. |
