Directional Terms
| Term | Definition |

| Anterior | toward front of the body |
| Posterior | toward the back of the body |
| Superior | close to the head |
| Inferior | away from the head |
| Medial | closer to the body's midline |
| Lateral | away from the body's midline |
| Proximal | closer to the trunk ( torso) |
| Distal | away from the trunk (torso) |
| Coronal/Frontal Plane | divides into anterior and posterior portions |
| Sagittal Plane | divides into right and left sections |
| Axial/Transverse plane | divides into upper and lower parts |
| Dorsal Cavity (Cavities it Includes) | Cranial Cavity (brain) and Vertebral Cavity (contains spinal column). Has key components of central nervous systems and includes meninges which are tissue surrounding brain and spinal cord to protect. |
