| Matter | All material in the universe that has mass and occupies space. |
| Atoms | Basic units of matter. |
| Element | A chemical substance with a given set of properties that cannot be broken down into substances with other properties. |
| Nucleus | Central core. |
| Molecule | A combination of two or more atoms of the same or different types joined by covalent bonds. |
| Compound | A substance composed of atoms of two or more different elements. |
| Hydrocarbons | Organic compounds containing only hydrogen and carbon. |
| Solution | A mixture in which all the ingredients are evenly distributed. |
| Macro molecules | Proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. |
| Proteins | Polymers that serve many functions in organisms. |
| Nucleic Acids | Macro molecules that direct protein production. |
| Carbohydrates | Polymers that consist of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. |
| Lipids | A chemically diverse group of Macro molecules that are classified together because they do not dissolve in water. |
| pH | The acidity or alkalinity of a solution. |
| Feedback Loop | A cause, or input, and an effect, or output, in the same system cyclical process. |
| Erosion | The removal of soil by water, wind, ice, or gravity. |
| Geo sphere | Made of all rock at below the earth's surface. |
| Lithosphere | Hard rock on and just below the Earth's surface. |
| Biosphere | The outermost layer of the Geo sphere. |
| Atmosphere | The layer of gases surrounding our planet. |
| Hydrosphere | Encompasses all water, salt, liquid, ice, and vapor on earth's surface under ground in the atmosphere. |
