vocabulary matter, atom, element, nucleus, molecule, compound, hydrocarbon, solution, macro molecule, protein, nucleic acids, carbohydrate , lipid, pH
matter all materials in the universe that has mass and occupies space is called matter.
Atoms the basic units of matter.
element is a chemical substance with a giving set of properties that cannot be broken down into substances with other properties.
nucleus a central core, containing particles called protons and neutrons.
molecule a combination of two or more atoms of the same type or of a different types joined by covalent bonds.
compound A substance composed of atoms of two or more different elements.
Hydrocarbons organic compounds containing only hydrogen and carbon.
solution A mixture in which all the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Macromolecules Proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and liquids.
proteins Polymers that serve many functions in organisms.
Nucleic acids Macromolecules that direct protein production.
Carbohydrates polymers that consist of atoms of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
lipids a chemical diverse group of macro molecules that are classified together because they do not dissolve in water.
pH The acidity or alkalinity of a solution is described by pH.
Vocabulary feedback loop, erosion, geosphere, lithosphere, biosphere , atmosphere, hydrosphere.
Feedback An event both a cause, or input and an effect, or output, in the system.
Loop A feedback loop can be either negative or positive
Erosion The removal of soil by water, wind, ice, gravity, can lead to a positive feedback loop.
Geosphere made up of all the rock at and below.
lithosphere The hard rock on and just below earth's surface - the outermost layer of geosphere.
Biosphere consist of all the planets's living or once-living things and the non-living parts of the environment with which they interact
Atmosphere consist of the layers of gases surrounding our planet
Hydrosphere all water, salt, fresh, liquid, ice, and vapor-on Earth's surface, underground, and in the atmosphere.
