Chapter 23 – Recreation

TermDefinition
Recreation Activities that refresh and strengthen the mind and body. Refreshment of strength and spirits after toil.
Amusement Activities done for pleasure, often excessive. Entertainment or diversion.
Physical Development The process of improving physical strength and capability. Growth and training of bodily faculties.
Indolence Habitual laziness or inactivity. Aversion to labor; idleness.
Gymnasium A place for physical exercise. A place where athletic exercises are performed.
Brutality Cruel and violent behavior. Savage cruelty; inhuman behavior.
Dissipation Overindulgence in pleasure or harmful habits. Wasteful or intemperate living.
Artificial Not natural; created by human design. Contrived or forced, rather than genuine.
Sympathy Understanding and shared feelings for others. Compassion for another’s feelings.
Fellowship Companionship and mutual sharing. Association based on shared interests.
Invigoration The process of energizing and strengthening. Restoration of strength and vitality.
Safeguard A protection against harm or risk. A defense or precaution.
