| graphite | n. a shiny, black substance that is used in pencils |
| paragraph | n. a part of a piece of writing that deals with one subject, begins on a new line, and is made up of one or more sentences |
| telegraph | n. an outdated system of sending messages over long distances by using wires and electrical signals |
| irrational | adj. not thinking clearly; not able to use reason or good judgment |
| irregular | adj. not normal or usual; not following the usual rules about what should be done; not regular in form or shape |
| irrelevant | adj. not important or relating to what is being discussed right now |
| nonexistent | adj. not present or real; not existing |
| nonverbal | adj. not involving or using words; not able to speak |
| photocopy | n. a paper copy of a document or picture that is made with a special machine (copier or photocopier) |
| photograph | n. a picture made by a camera (also called a photo) |
| photon | n. a tiny particle of light or electromagnetic radiation |
| photosynthesis | n. the process by which a green plant turns water and carbon dioxide into food when the plant is exposed to light |

| creditor | n. a person, bank, or company that lends money to someone |
| creed | n. a statement of the basic beliefs of a religion; an idea or set of beliefs that guides the actions of a person or group |
| incredulous | adj. not able or willing to believe something; feeling or showing a lack of belief |
| displace | v. to take the job or position of someone or something; to force people or animals to leave the area where they live; to move something so that it is no longer in its original or regular location |
| disgrace | v. to cause someone to feel ashamed; to cause someone or something to lose or become unworthy of respect or approval |
| decode | v. to find or understand the true or hidden meaning of something; to change (secret messages, documents) from a set of letters, numbers, and/or symbols you cannot understand into words you can understand |

| auditorium | n. a large room or building where people gather to hear a speech or watch a performance |
| antidote | n. a substance that stops the harmful effects of a poison; something that corrects or improves the bad effects of something |
| antisocial | adj. violent or harmful to people; not friendly to other people |
| antipathy | n. a strong feeling of dislike |
| antiseptic | n. a substance that prevents infection in a wound by killing bacteria |
| antibody | n. a substance produced by the body to fight disease |
| pedestrian | n. a person walking in a city or along a road |
| pedicure | n. a treatment to improve the appearance and health of the feet and toenails |
| pedometer | n. a device that measures the distance a person travels by walking |
| podiatrist | n. a doctor who treats injuries and diseases of the foot |
| tripod | n. a support or stand for a camera or telescope that has three legs |
| counterfeit | n. something that is made to look like an exact copy of something else in order to trick people |
| counterpart | n. someone or something that has the same job or purpose as another |
| counteract | v. act against something; to cause something to have less of an effect or no effect at all |
| contradict | v. to say the opposite of something; to deny the truth about something; to deny or disagree with what is being said by someone; to not agree with something in a way that shows or suggests that it is wrong |
