| Population distribution | is the pattern of human settlement—the spread of people across the earth. Represented on a map crowded, sparsely, or even empty. |
| population density | is a measure of the average population per square mile or kilometer of an area. It measures how crowded a place is. |
| midlatitudes | the regions between 30 degrees and 60 degrees, north and south of the equator. These areas have more moderate climates and better soils than regions at a higher or lower latitudes. |
| social stratification | The division of society based on wealth, education, race, gender, etc. basically a hierarchy |
| arithmetic population density | Calculated by dividing a regions population to its size and is expressed in the number of people per square mile or square kilometer. |
| physiological population density | Calculated by dividing population by the amount of arable land. |
| arable | land suitable for growing crops |
| Agricultural population density | compares the number of farmers to the area of arable land. This value gives an indication of the efficiency of the region’s farmers |
| redistricting | The division or organization of an area based on political districts, or other things. |
| infrastructure | refers to the facilities and structures that allow people to carry out their typical activities. Included or things such as sewer systems, electrical, grids, roads, and bridges, etc. |
| overpopulation | having more people than it can support |
| carrying capacity | the number of people a region can support without damaging the environment |
