Free Enterprise System market system where people have freedom as consumers and producers
Cash Crop a crop that is sold for money
Representative Government political system where policies are created by respresentatives selected by the people
Monarchy a government where the ruler inheirts the leadership role
Industry Economic activity that involves the making of a particular product
Compact A mutual agreement among members of a society
Agriculture growing crops and raising animals to produce food, fiber and other materials that sustain human life and societies
Columbian Exchange Christopher Columbus started a new trading pattern between the Old and New World
Conquistadors A spanish explorer who led expeditions into the Americas during the 16th century to conquer the land and claim territory
Missionaries individuals sent by religious organizations to promote their faith and convert others to their beliefs
Charter A publicly funded tuition-free school
Markets A regular gathering of people for the purchase and sale of provisions, livestock and other commodities
Slave Trade Where slaves were traded from Africa to Europe and the Americas
Indentured Servants A person who agreed to work for a master for several years to pay for their passage to the American Colonies
Quaker A religious society of friends.
Puritan Wanted to purify the church they settled in places like Plymouth.
Plymouth First successful English Colony in New England that were settled by Pilgrims
Jamestown Founded in 1607 in Virginia, First permanent English settlement to find riches. Colony faced a lot of hardships with famine and disease
William Penn He founded the colony of Pennsylvania as a haven for Quakers
