runt an animal that is smaller than average
stalling to delay or avoid doing something to gain more time or avoid a decision
pitiful something that brings up strong feelings of pity (sorrow for someone)
shudder tremble (shake) convulsively (suddenly/uncontrollably), usually because of fear or disgust
stampede a sudden panicked rush of animals
smirk a smile that shows you’re feeling proud, smug, or amused in a teasing way.
tormented experiencing great pain, suffering, or distress (emotionally or physically).
devour to eat something quickly and eagerly, or to take in something with great interest.
sagged to sink, droop, or hang down from weight or tiredness.
lopping cutting off something, like branches from a tree, often roughly.
erupted burst out suddenly or violently.
pathetic causing others to feel pity or sadness; sometimes used to mean very poor or weak.
wallow to roll around in something (like mud or sadness), or to stay stuck in a feeling.
expression the look on someone’s face that shows what they are thinking or feeling.
hoist to lift or raise something, especially something heavy.
