Quarter 1 Vocabulary
| Term | Definition |

| Ascending | order from least to greatest |
| Descending | order from greatest to least |
| Equivalent | equal; two values that have the same value |
| Percent | for every/for each one hundred |
| Proper Fraction | fraction whose numerator is less than the denominator. A proper fraction is a fraction that is always less than one. |
| Improper Fraction | fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator. Improper fractions can be converted into mixed numbers. 7/4 is an example |
| Mixed Number | fraction with a whole number part and a fractional part. Mixed numbers can be converted into improper fractions. |
| Ratio | comparison of two numbers using division. Ratios can be expressed as a fraction a/b, with a colon a:b, or in words a to b. |
| Simplest Form | fraction whose numerator and denominator have no common factors other than 1 |
| Product | answer to a multiplication problem |
| Quotient | answer to a division problem |
| Perfect Square | numbers that result from multiplying any whole number by itself |
| Squared | a number multiplied by itself; 4 • 4 or 4^2 |
| Exponent | a number that indicates how many times the base is used as a facto |
| Base | in 2^4, the base is 2. The base is used as a factor as many times as given by the exponent (4) |
| Square Roots | nonnegative number that must be multiplied by itself to equal a given number ⎷9= 3 because 3^2 = 9 |
