Quarter 1 Vocabulary

Ascending order from least to greatest
Descending order from greatest to least
Equivalent equal; two values that have the same value
Percent for every/for each one hundred
Proper Fraction fraction whose numerator is less than the denominator. A proper fraction is a fraction that is always less than one.
Improper Fraction fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator. Improper fractions can be converted into mixed numbers. 7/4 is an example
Mixed Number fraction with a whole number part and a fractional part. Mixed numbers can be converted into improper fractions.
Ratio comparison of two numbers using division. Ratios can be expressed as a fraction a/b, with a colon a:b, or in words a to b.
Simplest Form fraction whose numerator and denominator have no common factors other than 1
Product answer to a multiplication problem
Quotient answer to a division problem
Perfect Square numbers that result from multiplying any whole number by itself
Squared a number multiplied by itself; 4 • 4 or 4^2
Exponent a number that indicates how many times the base is used as a facto
Base in 2^4, the base is 2. The base is used as a factor as many times as given by the exponent (4)
Square Roots nonnegative number that must be multiplied by itself to equal a given number ⎷9= 3 because 3^2 = 9
