Unit 1 Geometric Figures

TermDefinition
Center of rotation A fixed point around which a figure is rotated
Corresponding angles Angles in the same relative position in figures
Corresponding sides Sides in the same relative position in figures
Image A figure that results form a transformation or sequence of transformations
Line of reflection A line across which a figure is reflected
Reflection A transformation that flips (reflects) a figure across a line to form a mirror image. This line is called the line of reflection.
Rigid transformation A transformation in which the size and shape of the figure does not change
Rotation A transformation that turns (rotates) a figure through a given angle and in a given direction around a fixed point. This point is called the center of rotation.
Transformation A change in location, orientation, or size of a figure.
Translation A transformation that moves (slides) each point of a figure the same distance in the same direction.
