Mr.G Types of Energy
Unit 4 Investigating Energy Transformation through Circuits
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chemical Energy | Energy stored in a substance. Examples: Food, Batteries |
| Circuit | The path through which electricity can flow |
| Electrical Energy | Moves through an electric circuit flowing through electric conductors |
| Energy | The ability to cause change in matter |
| Energy Transformation | Process of energy changing from one form to another. |
| Battery | An object that stores energy that can be converted into electrical energy. |
| Closed circuit/Complete Circuit | Electricity can only flow through a path that has no breaks or gaps. |
| Conductor | A material that allows electrical or thermal energy to pass through easily. |
| Current | A flow of electrons through a path. Energy Flow |
| Heat | A spontaneous transfer of energy due to a temperature difference. |
| Insulators | A material that slows down electrical or thermal. |
| Light Energy | The type of energy you can see. |
| Mechanical Energy | Energy of motion. Using Kinetic and Potential Energy. |
| Open Circuit/Incomplete Circuit | An electrical path with a broken path, where the electricity cannot flow because the path is interrupted. |
| Sound Energy | A type of energy made when something vibrates, or moves back and forth very quickly, sometimes producing sound |
| System | A group of different parts that are connected and work together to do a job or create a whole. |
| Thermal Energy | A form of energy measured by temperature. |
| Vibration | Back and forth movement of a substance. |
| Switch | A device that opens and closes an electrical circuit. |
