ENV.2: Matter and Its Interactions (Fundamental Chemistry)
| Term | Definition |

| Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
| Atom | The smallest unit of an element that retains the properties of that element. |
| Element | A pure substance made up of only one type of atom. |
| Compound | A substance made up of two or more different elements chemically combined. |
| Mixture | A combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined. |
| Chemical reaction | A process that changes one or more substances into different substances. |
| Energy | The ability to do work. |
| Law of conservation of mass | The total mass of reactants in a chemical reaction equals the total mass of products. |
| Law of conservation of energy | Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. |
| Atomic Number | Tells how many protons and electrons are in an element |
| Atomic Mass | Tell the total mass of an atom. Tell the total number of protons + neutrons in the nucleus of the atom. |
