| HABITABLE | having the conditions necessary to support life |
| rocky planet | any planet with a solid surface, such as earth or mars |
| system | a set of interacting parts forming a complex whole |
| Landform | a feature that forms on the surface of a planet, such as a mountain, channel, or sand dune |
| channel | a long, narrow groove that forms where water, lava, or other liquid flows |
| geologic process | an event or series of events that causes changes in the geosphere, such as flowing water or flowing lava |
| claim | a statement that answers a question about an observation or a scientific problem. it's a conclusion based on evidence and reasoning. |
| evidence | is the data and observations you collect to support a claim. it's the information that helps answer a scientific question |
| reasoning | is the explanation that connects your evidence to your claim. it's the why or how your evidence proves your claim. |
| Model | an object, diagram, or computer program that helps us understand something by making it simpler or easier to see |
| Mantle | The layer of soft, solid rock underneath Earth's plates |
| Convergent | moving toward the same place |
| Divergent | moving apart in different directions |
| Volcanic activity | any of the many processes (such as eruptions and lava flows) in which gas, lava, and ash are pushed out on the surface of Earth. |
