| Superior | Higher on the body ex. Superior vena cava- major blood vessel that carries deoxygenated blood from the upper and middle body into the right atrium. |

| Proximal | Closer to the point of attachment of the body ex. Tibia- the proximal fibula refers to the upper part of the shinbone, closest to the kneecap. |

| Iso- | Equal ex. Isoscholar- A type of chromosome that consist of two identical arms. |
| Mal- | Bad, abnormal ex. Malnutrition- A state of poor nutrition. |
| -algia | Pain ex. Myalgia- Muscle pain. |
| -emia | Blood condition ex. Septicemia- Infection in the blood. |
| -itis | Inflammation ex. Arthritis- Inflammation of a joint. |
| -lysis | Breakdown, separation, loosen ex. Cytolysis- Breakdown of a cell. |
