lymphatic system: drains, filters, and returns fluid between organs in the bodies.. includes all protective immune cells and functions
muscular system: movement by contraction
nervous system: communication using ions for nerves
reproductive system: produces sex cells (sperm and ova) and introduces them for sexual reproduction
respiratory system: breathing for gas exchange throughout the body
skeletal system: structural support, protects, cell production, and storage of calcium (from milk!)
excretory system: maintains fluid balance and excretes metabolic waste in urine
order the levels of organisms (just the names): atom --> molecule --> organelle --> cell --> tissue --> organ --> organ system --> organism
epithelial in 1 word: covering
connective in 1 word: support
muscle in 1 word: movement
nervous in 1 word: control
after quiz (got all right except for...): cell --> tissue (I did molecules --> cells) cell = organelles together tissues = group of cells
homeostasis: process by which living things attempt to maintain a stable environment (ex: sweating, shivering, etc)
draw the regions: ok
draw the cavities: ok
draw the type of cuts: ok
locate/draw the organs: ok
laceration: cut that is not straight
abrasion: friction wound
puncture: something goes through the body
crush injury: large amount of force be applied to the tissue in a short period of time
alvusion: the skin and sometimes other tissue is forcibly removed
amputation: quick removal of an entire body part
incision: straight cut
deep cut: goes through several layers of tissue and damages organs
superficial cut: damage only to the surface of the skin (ex: abrasion)
superior: towards your hear (wear a crown)
inferior: towards your feet
anterior/ventral: towards the front (belly) *need to know both names!
posterior/dorsal: towards the backside (back) *need to know both names!
medial: towards the center of the body (like the heart)
lateral: towards the side (your lungs are lateral to your heart)
proximal: closer to you
distal: farther away from you
draw the types of cuts: ok
orbital: eyes (your eye orbits in its socket)
abdominal: abs

cervical: neck
femoral: fymer (hamstrings area, right above the knee)
inguinal/pubic pubic area
patellar: knee cap
gluteal: glutes/butt
lumbar: lower back
occipital: lower head, above the neck
scapular: shoulder blades (not on the top, right below)
thoracic: breast area
sternal: breast plate, in between breasts
cephalic: the entire head
caudal: tail bone
why is your hair NOT lateral to your muscle? lateral is a directional term. hair is superficial to your muscle because your hair is on the outside of the body while your muscle is deep in your body.
positive feedback definition and examples: def: goes farther away from normal ex: scratch a wound and blood comes out, a person stuck in icy water, giving birth
negative feedback definition and examples: def: goes closer/back to normal ex: sweating, shivering, high blood pressure
parts of negative/positive feedback loops, what they are and the order: stimulus: beginning change happens (something goes "wrong") receptor: sensor notices change (usually has "receptor" in the name) control center: "boss" decides what to do effector(s): carries out fix ("solution") response: what happens/result from it
urinary system: The kidneys help maintain fluid and electrolyte balance within the body by filtering out the blood
