Decimal Place Value

TermDefinition
Decimal Number - a number with a decimal point separating the whole from the part
Decimal point - a dot placed between the ones place and the tenths place
Place Value - the value of a digit based on its location
Whole - numbers that include numerals; not a fraction or a decimal
Parts - Not a whole
Tenths - the first digit to the right of the decimal point
Hundredths - the second digit to the right of the decimal point
Equivalent - two meanings, numbers, or quantities that are the same
Expanded notation - a number written as a sum of each digit multiplied by the place value
Dollars - a type of money; 100 cents equals 1 dollar
Cents - a hundredth part of the dollar
