The Mole

QuestionAnswer
WHat is one mole of one substance One mole of a substance is the amount of that substance that contains 6.022 x 10^23 particles/atoms/ions/molecules
What is Avogadro’s constant? 6.022 x 10^23 is known as Avogadro’s constant.
Define Relative Molecular Mass The relative molecular mass of a compound is the average mass of one molecule of that compound compared to 1/12th of the mass of one atom of the carbon-12 isotope
How do you calculate Molecular Mass (Mr) Work out how many atoms (atomic mass) There are in each element and add together all the values
What formula would you used to convert grams to moles? Number of moles = mass molecular mass
What formula would you used to convert moles to grams? Mass = number of moles x molecular mass
What formula would you use to convert number of moles to number of particles? Number of moles x 6 x 1023 = molecules To convert molecules to atoms you need to multiply the amount of atoms in the molecule
What formula would you use to convert number of particles to number of moles? Number of atoms = number of moles 6 x 1023

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
