| Absolute Location | Specific location like streets |
| Cartogram | A map that is distorted because of what data it is showing like population |
| Cartography | The study and practice of making maps |
| Census | An official count of the population taken every 10 years |
| Choropleth Map | A map where the areas are colored to show data |
| Distance Decay | The further something is the less you are willing to interact |
| Dot Distribution Map | A map where it uses dots to show a specific amount or value |
| Environmental Determinism | The idea that the environment effects how people live |
| Formal Region | Where it's a region because of is collectively agreed and official that it is a region |
| Functional Region | Where it's a region because of how it is connected and flows |
| Geographic Information System (GIS) | A computer system that collects, studies, and displays geographic data |
| Geography | The study of the Earth and how it is distributed and how people interact with the world |
| Global Positioning System (GPS) | A navigation system that uses satellites to find the exact location of things on the Earth |
| Graduated Symbol Map | A map that uses symbols to scaled in size to represent the value of certain characteristics |
| International Date Line | An imaginary line from the North Pole to the South Pole that separates two back-to-back years |
| Isoline Map | A map that uses lines to connect places that have the same for certain thing like temperature, elevation, and air pressure |
| Latitude | Measures degrees north and south of the equator |
| Longitude | Measures degrees east and west of a line that starts at Greenwich, England |
| Map | A 2-D or flat model of the Earth's surface or part of it |
| Map Projection | The method used to transfer the Earth's 3-D surface onto a flat 2-D map |
| Perceptual/Vernacular Regions | A persons perception on a region that may or may not be true but are not based off of facts |
| Possibilism | The belief that even though the environment has limits we have the ability to bypass those restrictions |
| Region | An area grouped together by one or more distinctive characteristics |
| Remote Sensing | The process of collecting information from satellites and converting it into a digital format that can be stored, analyzed, and used by a computer. |
| Scale (Map Scale) | The comparison of distance on a map versus the actual distance on the surface |
| Site | The physical characteristics (natural or man made) of a place |
| Situation | Relative location of a place |
| Space-Time Compression | the idea that our advances make the world feel smaller by reducing the time needed to travel or communicate from far |
| Sustainability | The concept of using our natural resources in a way that won't effect the futures needs |
| Thematic Map | A map designed to show data or a specific concept for a particular area |
| Time Zone | Where it is a different time depending on where you live because of the sun |
| Topographic Map | An accurate 2-D map that represents the natural and physical features of the Earth's surface |
