| representative | a person chosen to act, speak, or make decisions for another person or group of people |
| confederacy | a league of independent members working together for a common benefit or objective |
| cash crop | a crop grown for the purpose of selling rather than local consumption |
| compact | a formal agreement or contract between two or more parties |
| assembly | a group of people gathered for a specific purpose |
| indentured servant | a person who is bound to work for another for a specified period of time |
| council | a group of people who come together to discuss issues, make decisions, or offer advice |
| president | the title typically given to the chief executive and head of government in a presidential democracy |
| private ownership | businesses, property, and resources belonging to individual citizens instead of the government |
| cultivate | to prepare and use land for crops |
| enslave | to force someone to work as a slave |
