Math Vocabulary

Unit 1 Vocab

TermDefinition
Factor A number you can multiply with another number to get a product.
Prime Number A number that only has two factors. 1 and itself.
Composite Number A number that has more than two factors.
Product The answer you get when you multiply.
Remainder The amount left over after you divide
Reasonable An answer that makes sense and is close to what you expect.
Perimeter The distance all the way around a 2-dimesional shape.
Area How much space is inside a 2-dimesional shape.
Volume How much space is inside a 3-D shape.
Distributive Property A math rule that lets you break apart a multiplication problem.
Algorithm A step-by-step set of rules for solving a problem.
Inverse Operation An opposite math operation that undoes another.
Divided The big number you are dividing (Total)
Divisor The number you are dividing by.
Quotient The answer you get when you divide.
