| Assess | To look closely at how well something meets goals or rules |
| Assessment | A way to check or measure something (like a test, survey, or self-check) |
| Brainstorm | Sharing ideas freely in a group to solve a problem or come up with new ideas |
| Client | A person who uses the services of a business or professional |
| Creativity | The ability to think of and make new ideas or things |
| Criteria | The rules or standards used to judge or decide if something is good |
| Constraint | A limit or restriction, like not enough money, space, or materials |
| Design | A plan for making something that solves a problem or meets a need; it can also mean a drawing or a decorative pattern |
| Design Brief | A written plan that explains a problem to be solved, what the solution must include (criteria), and limits (constraints) |
| Design Process | A step-by-step method to solve problems by coming up with many ideas and choosing the best one |
| Design Statement | A challenge that explains what the solution should do (but not how to do it) |
| Designer | A person who creates plans, drawings, or ideas for how something should look or work |
| Engineer | A person who uses science and technology to solve real-world problems |
| Engineering Notebook | A special notebook where engineers write down all their work, ideas, and designs in order |
| Innovation | An improvement or upgrade to something that already exists |
| Invention | A brand-new product, process, or system that has never been made before |
| Iterative | Doing steps over and over until you get the best result |
| Justifiable | Something that can be explained as fair or reasonable |
| Piling-on | Adding new ideas that build on someone else’s idea |
| Problem Identification | Realizing and naming a problem that needs to be fixed |
| Product | Something made by people, machines, or nature that you can use or touch |
| Prototype | A test version or model of something to see how it works before making the final one |
| Research | Studying information to learn facts or make new discoveries |
| Valid | Something true, accurate, and backed up by evidence |
| Construction Line | Light, temporary lines used to help create a drawing |
| Edge | The line where two surfaces of an object meet |
| Grid | A network of evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines used as a reference |
| Height | The vertical measurement of an object from base to top |
| Hidden Line | Dashed lines used to show edges that are not visible |
| Isometric Sketch | A 3D sketch that shows width, height, and depth at equal angles |
| Line Conventions | Standard types of lines used in technical drawings to show different features |
| Line Weight | The thickness of a line in a drawing to indicate importance or type |
| Measurement | The process of determining the size, length, or amount of something |
| Multiview Drawings | Drawings that show multiple views (front, top, side) of an object |
| Object Line | A thick, dark line that shows the visible edges of an object |
| Oblique Sketch | A 3D sketch where the front is flat and the sides are drawn at an angle |
| Orthographic Projection | A method of showing an object using several 2D views |
| Perspective Sketch | A 3D drawing that shows depth as it appears to the eye |
| Plane | A flat, two-dimensional surface |
| Profile | The side view or outline of an object |
| Projection Line | A line used to transfer measurements or points from one view to another |
| Projection Plane | An imaginary flat surface onto which a view is projected |
| Proportion | The relative size of parts of an object compared to the whole |
| Scale | The ratio of a drawing’s size to the actual object’s size |
