character vs. society a character faces a problem with a larger group (a community, society or culture)
character vs. unknown a character faces a problem with an unknown person or thing
character vs. self a character experiences some type of inner conflict

dynamic character a character who grows, learns, or changes as a result of the story's action
static character a character who does not change at all, or who remains almost entirely the same, throughout the course of a play or story
flat character a character who is not very well developed; has few (one-two) identifiable characteristics
round character a character who has more dimensions to his/her personality; he/she is complex and multi-faceted, like a real person
