Fables Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Fable a short story, typically with animals as characters, conveying a moral
Plot The main events of the story
Theme The message the author is trying to send; can be applied to various stories (ex. true friendship is hard to find)
Moral A lesson, especially one concerning what is right or important, that can be decided from a story, piece of information, or an experience (ex: slow and steady wins the race)
Setting The place where an events happens
Character a person in a novel, play, or movie
antagonist the character (villain) who is actively working against or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary
protagonist the leading character (Hero) or one of the main characters in a fictional story.
Conflict a serious problem, disagreement or argument
Resolution The solution to the problem; the ending
Personification Giving lifelike qualities to something that his not alive.
Determination the act of coming to a decision or agreement; settling a purpose
Rising Action events that lead up to the conflict, build suspense, bring reader to the climax
Falling Action events that happen after the climax, that leads to the resolution of the story
