body mechanics correct position of the body to help a person avoid injury during a physical task
Safety Data Sheet (SDS) an OSHA-required document that explains the risks of a chemical product
safety precaution safety precaution information about the safe operation of a piece of equipment, which is usually found in the instruction manual or on equipment labels
aseptic techniques practices used by healthcare professionals to keep an environment free of pathogens and prevent the spread of infections
chain of infection the elements required for an infection to spread from one source to another
pathogen a disease-causing microorganism
personal protective equipment (PPE) equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns, respirators, and eyewear worn to protect skin, clothing, and the respiratory tract from infectious agents
standard precautions steps that a healthcare worker takes with all patients to prevent the spread of infection
transmission-based precautions special steps used in addition to standard precautions, chosen based on how the patient’s infection is spread
electrical shock a physical reaction to electricity passing through the body
Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep (PASS) an acronym for remembering the steps to use a fire extinguisher
Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Extinguish/Evacuate (RACE) an acronym used to remember the steps to take in response to a fire emergency
