Motion Flashcards

TermDefinition
Motion A change in position of an object. /the action or process of being moved/moving.
Reference Point A point used to describe location.
Distance The space in between to objects. Does not use direction, scalar quantity.
Displacement The shortest distance between the starting and ending point of an object. Does use direction, vector quantity
Vector A measurement that includes both speed and direction.
Scalar A quantity completely describe by a single numerical value, representing it’s magnitude without any associated direction.
Speed The rate at which an object moves. How far something moves in a certain amount of time.
Average Speed A total distance traveled by an object divided by the total time it takes to travel that distance.
Instantaneous Speed The speed of an object in a certain point of time. A measurement of how fast that object is moving at that particular moment.
