| Plot | The events that happen in the beginning ,middle,and end of a story. |
| Setting | The time and Place of story. |
| Dialogue | Conversations characters have with each other . |
| internal conflict | A problem or struggle that happens inside a character's mind or heart. |
| external conflict | A problem or struggle between a character and something outside of them. |
| Narrator | The person or voice telling a story |
| First person point of view | the narrator is a character inside the story and uses words like I me ,my, we. |
| Third person point of view | The narrator is outside the story and uses words like he,she,they ,them. |
| figurative language | language used in an imagination way to express ideas that are not literally true |
| simile | compares two unlike things using words such as like or as |
| metaphor | metaphor compares two unlike things without using the words like or as |
| sensory details | words that appeal to the five senses and/or language that allows the reader to create mental images |
| connotation | the feelings ,ideas or emotions a word makes you think of |
| denotation | the exact dictionary definition of a word. |
| Exposition | The introduction to the story that usually reveals the setting ,the major characters and the conflict |
| Rising Action | The major events that develop the plot and lead to the climax |
| climax | the event that is the turning point in the story at Which the conflict is usually resolved |
| Falling Action | the events that begin to concluding the story and lead to the ending |
| resolution | the events that conclude the story and reveal it's message . |
| Theme | the central message that runs throughout a story |
| Personification | giving human characteristics or traits to an animal or non living thing |
| Foreshadowing | clues or hints in a story or events that will happen later in plot |
| commentary | The reader's own interpretation of what is happening within a story. This goes beyond on the surface level of the text and can include the reader's personal opinions. |
| hyperbole | A type of figurative language that makes an exaggerate state Which is not meant to be taken |
| subplot | the secondary plot that happens along with the main plot |
| Nonfiction | a type of writing that Is based on real events and real people |
| central idea | the main massage a writer wants to readers to understand from a text |
| memoir | a from narrative writing written from perspective of author about an important time in their life |
| thesis | a sentence in The introduction of an essay that states the writer position or opinion on topic of the essay |
