TermDefinition
plot The events that happen in the beginning middle, and end of a story.
Setting The time and place of a story.
Dialogue Conversation characters have with each other.
internal conflict A problem or strangle that happens inside a character's minds or heart.
External Conflict A problem or struggle between a character and something outside of them.
Narrator The person or voice telling a story.
First person point of view The narrator is a character inside the story and uses words like I, me ,my ,we.
Third person point of view The narrator is outside the story and uses words like he, she, they, them.
Figurative language language used in an imaginative way to express ideas that are not literally true.
simile compares two unlike things using words such as like or as
metaphor compares two unlike things without using the words like or as.
Exposition The introduction to the story that usually reveals the setting the major character, and the conflict
rising conflict the major events that develop the plot and lead to the climax
Climax The event that is the turning point in the story, at which the conflict is usually resolved
falling action The vents that begin to conclude the story and lead to the ending
resolution The event s that conclude the story and revels its message.

gallantly to do something gallantly is to show bravery and good manners
dismantle to dismantle something is to break apart
diabolic when something is diabolic that means it is extremely evil or cual

sensible to be sensible is to show careful judgement to make good thought out decision.
pandemonium A pandemonium refers to a feeling when everything is wild loud or out of control.
subplot The secondary plot that happens along with the main plot.
malevolent to be malevolent is to have a desire to harm other evil or mean spirited.
rhododendron A rhodenderonis a type of bush or shrub with large bright flowers that bloom in the spring
gouge To gouge something is to cut or dig into it deeply
skeptical to be skeptical is to have doubts about something or question it entirely
manna manna is a biblical term that refers to something that comes unexpectedly like a gift or blessing.
connotation The feelings, ideas, or emotion a word makes you think of
Denotation The literal, dictionary definition of a word.
Theme The central message that runs throughout a story
Personification Giving human characteristics or traits to an animal or non living thing
Commentary The reader's own interpretation of what is happening within at story this goes beyond the surface level of that text and can include the reader's personal opinion

hyperbole a type of figurative language that make an exaggerated statement which is not meant to be taken literally.
Foreshadow warning of a future event.
Non-fiction A type of writing that is based on real events and real people.
central idea The main message a writer wants readers to understand from a text
Memior A form of narrative writing written from the perspective of the author about a important time in their life
thesis statement A sentence in the introdcution of an essay that states the writer position of opinion on the topic of the essay
