| Contraindication | Reasons not to take the drug |
| Dependence | Needing a drug to feel normal |
| Desired Effect | What the drug is supposed to do (like calm you down with Ativan) |
| Distribution | How the drug travels through your body |
| Dose | Amount of drug to be administered at one time or amount required to produce an effect |
| Drug Clearance | The rate in which the active drug is removed from the body (ADME) |
| Duration | How long the drug works |
| Excretion | How the drug leaves your body |
| First Pass Effect | The drug gets filtered before it works fully |
| Half Life | Time it takes for half of the drug to disappear |
| Metabolism | How your body breaks the drug down |
| Narcotic | Strong painkiller, usually prescription |
| Nonnarcotic | Pain reliever that’s usually over-the-counter |
| Onset | When the drug starts working |
