| fiction | a type of story that is made up and not true. It uses the author's imagination to create characters, settings, and events that are not based on real people or facts. |
| author's purpose | the primary reason they write a text, which can be to persuade, inform, or entertain |
| main idea | the main point or message the author wants to convey |
| summary | telling the most important parts of a story, movie, or book in your own words, but in a shorter way |
| inferencing | figuring out things that the author doesn't directly say, but are hinted at using clues and what you already know using clues from the text and schema. |
| text evidence | specific words or sentences from a book, story, or article to support your ideas or answers; clues from the text |
| schema | information I already know from my background knowledge |
| point of view | how someone sees or thinks about something |
| context clues | hints found within a text that help readers understand the meaning of unfamiliar words or phrases |
