Variable/Pronumeral Is a letter that is used in place of a number. Lower case
Coefficient is the number part of the term. (the number in front of the variable)
Algebraic Expression a mathematical statement made up of terms, operation symbols and/or brackets.
Equation Contains two expressions with an equal sign between them.
Term a group of letters & numbers that form an expression and are separated by an addition or subtraction sign.
Constant is a number with no pronumeral attached to it (a number by itself)
Quotient division
Product multiplication
Algebra a type of mathematical language
Double multiply by two
Decrease to subtract
Difference subtraction
Sum addition

Square refers to the power of 2 (a number multiplied by itself)
'Think of a number' use a pronumeral.
Substitution The variable is replaced with a value. Giving the pronumeral a value.
Evaluate work out the value
Substituting negative integers remember to use the rules for directed numbers.
Commutative Law the order in which two numbers are added or multiplied. Commutative Law holds true for addition and multiplication only.
Associative Law the grouping of three numbers that are +,-,X,divided. Associative Law holds true for + and X only
Inverse Opposite
Like Terms Terms contain exactly the same pronumerals, raised to the same power. (coefficients don't need to match)
Distributive Law Expanding the brackets.
Factorizing Finding Highest Common Factor (HCF) outside the bracket. Opposite process to expanding
