What are the levels of structural organization in the human body, from simplest to th most complex? Chemical - Cellular - Tissue - Organ - Organ System - Organism
What are the main body planes used to describe anatomical sections? Sagittal ( divides left and right) , Frontal (divides front and back), and Transverse (divides top and bottom).
What are the four major elements that make up about 96% of the human body? Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen
What is the function of enzymes in the human body? Enzymes speed up chemical reactions by lowering the activation energy needed.
What is the function of the mitochondria in a cell? Mitochondria are the "powerhouses" of the cell; they produce ATP through cell respiration
What is the role of the plasma membrane? It regulates what enters and leaves the cell and provides protection and structure.
True or false : Epithelial tissue is highly vascular and contains many blood cells? False - Epithelial tissue is avascular; it relies on diffusion from underlying connective tissue.
True or false: The skin is the largest organ in the human body? True
True or false: Spongy bone Is found only in the shaft of long bones? False - spongy bone is primarily found in the ends of long bones and inside flat bones.
