Pure Substance An element or compound composed of either only that element or compound
Mixture Combinations of chemical substances not chemically bonded
Element A substance that can't be broken down into smaller substances
Compound Combinations of different chemical substances that are chemically bonded
Solution A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances
The Law of Conservation of Mass States that mass can't be created or destroyed just changed from one form to another and mass of reactant and mass of product need to be equal
Physical Properties color,density,melting point,and boiling point
Chemical Properties How a substance reacts to other substances
Kinetic Energy Energy of motion
Potential Energy Stored Energy
Thermal Energy Heat
Chemical Energy Energy stored between the bonds of molecules and compounds
Electrical Energy The result of movement from charged particles(particularly electrons)
Energy Transfer The movement of energy from one place or another
Energy Transformations The conversion of one form of energy to another
Chemical Reactions Processes that involve changes in the chemical bonds of substances
Physical Changes Changes in the physical form of a substance without altering its chemical composition
Enthalpy The total heat content of a system at constant pressure
Entropy The measurement of disorder or randomness in a system
Subatomic Particles The protons,neutrons,and electrons that make up a particle
Atomic Number The mass of the protons,neutrons,and electrons in a atom
Isoptopes Atoms of the same element that have a different amount of neutrons
Ions Atoms that lost or gained electrons giving them a net charge
Molecules Two or more atoms chemically bonded
Chemical Bonds The force that holds atoms together in molecules and compounds
Electron Configuration The arrangement of electrons within an atom's energy level
Orbitals Regions of space around the nucleus where electrons are most likely to be found
