| Term | Definition |

| distributive property | Multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products. |
| partial products | The products found by breaking apart a factor into ones, tens, hundreds, and so on, and multiplying each of these by the other factor. |
| commutative property of multiplication | When two numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the order of the factors. |
| compatible numbers | Numbers that are easy to multiply and are close to the actual numbers. |
| place value | The value of the place of a digit in a number. |
