Big Ideas Chapter 3 and 4

TermDefinition
distributive property Multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products.
partial products The products found by breaking apart a factor into ones, tens, hundreds, and so on, and multiplying each of these by the other factor.
commutative property of multiplication When two numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the order of the factors.
compatible numbers Numbers that are easy to multiply and are close to the actual numbers.
place value The value of the place of a digit in a number.
