Insulin for Type 1 Diabetes

When should ultra short acting insulins be administered? 15-20 minutes before meals (Fiasp), all others immediately before.
What are the short acting insulins? Humalin R, Actrapid
When should short acting insulins be administered? 30 minutes before meals
What are the long acting insulins? Insulin glargine (Toujeo, Optisulin), Levemir, Humalin NPH, Protaphane
How long do long acting insulins last for? 12-24 hours
Which long acting insulins are not interchangeable? Toujeo and Optisulin (insulin glargine)
What is the mixed short acting and long acting insulin? Humalin 30-70
What are the mixed long acting and ultra short acting insulins? NovoMix 30, Humalog mix 25, Humalog Mix 50, Ryzodeg
What are the counselling points for insulin? Alcohol lowers bgl, eat when drinking, avoid binge drinking, may mask hypoglycaemia. Know how to treat hypoglycaemia - self, family, friends Rotate injection sites to prevent scarring of fat tissue Cloudy insulins need to be gently rolled and inverted
