| What are the charges on the subatomic particles? | Protons=Positive Neutron=Neutral Electron=Negative |
| What is the electron arrangement? | 2,8,8 |
| What is an element? | Elements are the simplest substances, an element is a pure substance, all atoms in an element are identical. Elements cannot be broken down |
| What does each of the rows/periods on a period table mean? | All the elements in the row have similar properties. |
| What does each of the columns/groups of the periodic table mean? | They react with other elements in a similar way |
| What does an elements atomic number represent? | The number of protons and electrons in an element |
| What does the atomic mass number represent on an element? | The number of protons added with the number of neutrons |
| What is a molecule? | MoleculeĀ is used to describe any atoms that are chemical bonds |
| What is a compound? | Compounds are substances made up of two or more different elements which chemically bonded |
| What is the difference between a compound and molecule? | All compounds are molecules, but not all molecules are compounds |
| What is a mixture? | Two or more pure substances that are mixed together and is physically combined |
| What are the indications of chemical change occuring? | Change in Temperature, change in colour, noticeable odor, formation of a precipitate (solid), formation of bubbles (gas) |
| What are the indicators of a physical change occurring? | Change of state of matter, mixing of substances, often reversable |
| What are the physical properties? | Colour, texture, lustre, brittleness, solubility, polarity, elasticity, melting, boiling and freezing point and state of matter |
| What are chemical properties? | Flammability, toxicity, radioactivity, oxidise, corrosive? |
