Ch. 8 Vocab

Pre-Algebra Chapter 8 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Base the part of a power that tells which number to use as a factor to multiply by itself (ex. the 5 in 5^4)
Scientific Notation shorthand for writing very large/small numbers, written as a number 1-10 multiplied by a power of 10
Power of a Power Property keep the base the same and multiply the exponents
Negative Exponent Property take the reciprocal of the base and make the exponent positive
Zero Exponent Property any nonzero number raised to the power of 0 equals 1
Exponent the part of a power that tells how many times to multiply the base by itself (ex. the 4 in 5^4)
