Pre-Algebra Chapter 7 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Relation a set of ordered pairs
Function a special type of relation where each input (x) is paired with exactly one output (y)
Linear Function can be represented by a straight line on a graph, a y=mx+b equation, or a table with a constant rate of change
Vertical Line Test if a vertical line touches only one point on a graph at a time, then the graph is a function
Input the independent variable (x)
Output the dependent variable (y)
Nonlinear Function a graph that is not a straight line, or an equation with one or more nonlinear operations in it (x^2, for example), or a table with no constant rate of change
