QuestionAnswer
Glulam strong composites in structures. Careful choice of laminates almost eliminates natural defects e.g. knots and shakes. Revival recently: better s2w ratio than steel, lower energy to form/shape, sustainable resource.
Kevlar form of aromatic polyamide (polymer with ring like molecules in long chains) artificial fibre Tough and tensile strong because of density + chemical bonds in molecular structure. Often combined w/ resins: advanced composites. E.g. puncture resist tyres
Precious metal clay (PMC) microscopic metal particles in pliable medium. Then sintered (raising temp until particles fuse and medium burned off). Latest only need 10 mins at 700C, shrinking in size by about 10 percent - must be factored into design especially if for ring.
Nanomaterials 1-100 nm. Cosmetics. Investigated to make nanoelectric devices, reducing size and increasing capacity. Also coating materials and products, potential for revolutionary medical and electrical applications (e.g. graphene-coat anodes to extend battery life)
Graphene nanomaterial. Good tensile, hardness, heat resist, electrical conductivity. carbon nanotubes incredibly thin and hollow so could do medical such as delivering drugs. But nanomaterials not recyclable and some toxic, so caution needed with adoption.
Social vs ethical Social issues affect large number of people. Ethical issues are related to beliefs.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) self regulatory scheme for companies to keep responsible and sustainable.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
