Pros of vertical in-house production Supply chain owned by company. Less risk of price increases/bankrupcy, and more brand and IPR (intellectual property rights) protections, as well as easier QA implementation.
Cons of vertical in-house production Less specialised - expertise dilution Increase in administration Reduction in flexibility (can't switch suppliers)
SMED Often using quick release locking devices and multi-purpose parts. Less machine downtime - cost efficient
