TermDefinition
graph An effective tool used to compare data in clear, concise, and visual terms.
range The difference between the least and greatest values in the set.
scale The set of values or numbers along the side of a graph.
interval The regular difference between each unit on the scale.
axes The two labeled lines, one vertical and one horizontal along the sides of a graph.
single bar graph This graph offers a clear visual presentation of facts. Uses blocks to show the data.
single line graph This graph is often used to compare change over time or the frequency of an event.
circle graph This graph demonstrates how a whole is split into individual parts.
pictograph This graph uses pictures or symbols to compare data.
double bar graph This graph is used to compare two sets of data within a given time or set of circumstance
multiple line graph This graph compares two or more sets of data which are changing over time.
histogram this graph often illustrates the frequency of an event and shows how data falls into different intervals
stem and leaf plot This graph organizes data in an increasing or decreasing order.
box and whisker A graphic way to display the median, quartiles, and extremes of a data set on a number line to show the distribution of the data.
