QuestionAnswer
what is a transverse wave? waves that move perpendicular (lines up and down)
What is newton's first law? an object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion continues in motion at a constant speed and in a straight line unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
what is newtons second law? the acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass.
what is newtons third law? for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction, meaning that forces always occur in pairs.
Whats a trough? lowest point of longitudinal wave
whats a crest? highest point in a longitudinal wave
whats a medium? what a wave needs to travel through
whats a wavelength? distance from trough to trough or crest to crest
whats amplitude? distance from the rest point to the top of one wave
whats a mechanical wave? a wave that requires a medium
whats the relationship between momentum and velocity? p=mv greater velocity or greater mass = greater momentum
what does momentum mean? the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.
what does mass mean? Quantitative measure of inertia
what does velocity mean? the rate of change of an object's position with respect to time
what does collision mean? the sudden, forceful coming together in direct contact of two bodies
what does elastic collision mean? a collision between two bodies in which both momentum and kinetic energy are conserved
what is reaction force? a reaction force is a force that acts in the opposite direction to an action force.
what is action force? refers to the force applied by an object on another object.
what is an inelastic collision? a collision in which kinetic energy is not conserved
what is pitch? The highness or lowness of a sound.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
