TermDefinition
triangle a three-sided polygon
trapezoid a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides
rectangle a parallelogram with four right angles
parallelogram a quadrilateral whose opposite sides are both parallel and equal in length
area the number of square units needed to cover a flat (2D) surface
base (of a 2D figure) the side of a quadrilateral or triangle that is perpendicular to the height of the shape; in a trapezoid, the two parallel sides
height (of a 2D figure) the distance from one base of a quadrilateral to another, or the distance from the point of the triangle to the base, forming a right angle
square units a unit, measuring 1 unit by 1 unit, that is used in measuring area
composite shape two or more combined figures that create a unified, single shape
decompose to separate a shape into smaller shapes in order to find it's total area
net a flat, two-dimensional model of a three-dimensional shape
cube a regular solid having six congruent square faces
rectangular prism a solid shape with two identical rectangle bases and all other faces are rectangles
triangular prism a solid shape with two identical triangle bases and all other faces are rectangles
pyramid a solid shape with one polygon base and all other faces are triangles that come to a point
vertex (vertices) the point at which two edges, line segments, lines, or rays meet to form an angle
face(s) a flat surface that is one side of a solid figure
edge(s) a line segment created when two faces meet in a solid figure
surface area the sum of the space covered by all the flat sides of a solid figure, measured in square units
volume the amount of space inside a solid, 3-D figure
cubic units the unit of measure for volume; 1 unit x 1 unit x 1 unit
linear units a unit of measurement of length, perimeter, and circumference (ex. inches, feet, yards)
perimeter the distance around the outside of a polygon or composite figure

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.
