Confederal powers RESERVED for the states
Unitary powers given to federal/central/national government DELEGATED, ENUMERATED
Enumerated/Delegated Powers FEDERAL-Post office, coin money, declare war, regulate interstate and foreign commerce (trade), negotiate treaties with foreign countries
Concurrent Powers SHARED FEDERAL & STATE- guarantee civil rights and liberties, levy and collect taxes, provide for public safety, establish courts, punish lawbreakers, borrow money, construct and maintain roads
Reserved Powers STATE- conduct elections, establish local governments, establish schools, regulate marriage, divorce, and adoption, regulate intrastate commerce (trade), provide fire and police protection, enact license requirements
Legislative Branch makes the laws, approves treaties and executive documents, establishes federal courts, declare war
Executive Branch enforces the laws, acts as commander in chief, negotiates treaties, appoints federal judges and other top officials
Judicial Branch interprets the laws, reviews lower court decisions, judges whether laws and executive actions are constitutional, rules on cases between states
