Biology: Mitosis

cell division questions

QuestionAnswer
What is Mitosis? Mitosis is the process of cells dividing in order to make new cells, Mitosis is also known as cell division
What are chromatids? Chromatids are two halves of a chromosome that are identical
What are Centrioles? Centiroles are pasta looking cyliander organelles that also have spindle fibres attached to them
Where is the Centromere on a chromosome? The Centromere is located directly in the middle of each chromosome
What is the Interphase and why is it nesscary? The interphase is the phase before mitosis where the chromatin is duplicated and its nesscary because each new cell must have 46 chromatin
What is the cell cycle? The cell cycle is the period from one cell division to the next cell division
What is the order of each cell cycle phase? Prophase,Metaphase,Anaphase,Telophase
What does unicellular mean? Unicellular means one celled
What happens during the prophase? The centrioles move to the poles of the cell and the spindle fibres start to form and grow longer
What happens during the Metaphase? The spindle fibres move the chromosomes to the equator of the cell and postion them until they are lined up.
What happens during the Anaphase? In the anaphase the chromosomes are pulled apart and start to move to the poles of the cell, the cell then starts to strecth longer
What happens during the Telophase? During the Telophase the cell walls pinch in which is also know as cytokinesis , the nuculear membran begins to reform and the cells are then sperated
What are Spindle fibres? Spindle fibres are attached to the centrioles and are bassically strings of protein
Which part of the cell is the equator? its the middle.
What is happens during cytokinesis? during cytokinesis cells will pinch in.
